Day 1 – Elephant Ride &Lahu Hill Tribe Village
We will pick you up from your Chiang Mai hotel or guesthouse and drive your to the Mae Tang district. Along the way, our tour guide will purchase some supplies for the long trek at a local market. When we arrive in Mae Tang, you will be able to enjoy a scenic elephant ride and witness the beauty of the flora.
You’ll be served lunch next to the elephant camp after the tour before we begin the first stage of the hike. This 3 hour trek is challenging and constantly uphill, but will show you a truly magnificent view of the surrounding forests. As we reach the top of the mountain, we will arrive at the beautiful Lahu hill tribe village. This is where you’ll spend the night, so you will be given some leisure time between late afternoon and evening to relax and explore.
After dinner, which will be prepared and served by your guide, we will provide some more leisure time for you to enjoy a few drinks and acquaint yourself with the other trekkers.
Day 2 – Waterfall Trek & White Water Rafting
The atmosphere up in the Lahu hill tribe village is refreshing and cool, thanks to the altitude of the mountain. You will wake up to a hearty breakfast and proceed to enjoy an energizing morning trek towards a nearby waterfall. Once we reach our checkpoint, you’ll be given a break time to swim and relax next to the water.
We will leave the waterfall and trek towards the river, which we will reach by going through the jungle and Lahu farmland. Once we arrive at the river, you will be served a quick lunch, followed by a short briefing of safety and operational instructions for our white water rafting adventure. The ride downstream is roughly 5 km long, and will be filled with exciting rapids. Please note that the largest great rapids usually occur between May and November, but are still quite enjoyable year-round.
As we reach the lower area of the river, the rapids will have calmed down. Here, we will provide bamboo rafts that will allow you to steer in a relaxed setting so that you can truly appreciate your surroundings. Or, if you would prefer, we will pilot the rafts for you so you can simply sit back and enjoy the view. It’s then time to drive back to Chiang Mai where you arrive at around 17:00.
